Hi friends! Let’s dive right in! I’ve had some incredibly rewarding styling sessions in the first few months of 2024 - I styled a couple for the Grammys, a transgender person, and a few women who are entering a very pivotal chapter of their lives. All that to say, we are all humans going through a lot of the same struggles and insecurities. I’m so so grateful to play a supporting role in the time that we share together.
If you’re thinking of tackling spring cleaning projects - start with one space, one category, one drawer, just one step at a time. You got this!
THE TREND CYCLE
Remember Miranda Priestly’s blue sweater monologue in Devil Wears Prada? She breaks down the life cycle of a trend for Andy’s cerulean sweater, and I’ve created a, hopefully, less intimidating version of it.
1. CREATION/ RESURGENCE: High fashion houses & designers (re)introduce trend at fashion shows (e.g. fuzzy/furry details, icy blue)
2. TRENDSETTING: Fashion industry leaders & stylists start incorporating into wardrobes (e.g. Y2K fashion, studs, bows, colored tights)
3. MASS PRODUCTION: Trend peaks and is seen in the majority of retailers, social media, etc. (e.g. ballet flats, wide leg pants, oversized, sheer)
4. CONSERVATIVES: Trend on decline and showing up in discount stores - those who are hesitant to investing in fashion start to incorporate into wardrobe (e.g. skinny jeans)
5. LATENCY: Trend is irrelevant to the majority - this period does NOT mean you can’t wear a trend, except for fedoras
